What a holiday weekend!!! Saturday night I was honored enough to get to go to the first Alabama game of the season. Bryant-Denny Stadium looks the best it ever has...certainly $52M well spent - we felt like we were at a pro stadium. It truly looks great!
I wish our secondary had looked as great...they need a lot of work, but I was impressed with our young QB and really with the improvements from last year on our O-line...Andre Smith is a BEAST!
My Packers lost their last pre-season game against the Titans and in the words of Forrest Gump, "That's all I've got to say about that". In other words...I don't want to talk about it!
On a semi-related note though, I went to see one of my best friends, Kelly, on Sunday afternoon who lives in Hattiesburg, MS...home of Brett Favre! Kelly just had a little girl in June and I wanted to see the baby and the rest of the family (she has 4 kids now) so Jackson and I headed out after church Sunday!
Jackson was great and loved playing with the 3 older kids and didn't want to leave Monday afternoon. It was funny...when we first started out on the trip I had told him that we were going to see Aunt Kelly and she lives near Brett Favre. He was all excited and asked if we could go by his house. Of course, I wanted to see where he lived too so I told him that we would. Well, he lives on at least 40 acres so you can't really see a lot...except the gate entrance with the "F" on it so that's what the picture is here. Jackson was a little disappointed that he wasn't actually seeing Brett's house. It was funny - everywhere we went after that he kept asking when we'd stop "is this Brett Favre's house?" and I would say no and he'd say, "Well, I thought we were going to see his house!" It was pretty funny actually - it was hard to explain to him that we can't really SEE his house - I guess he thought we'd tour his house and meet him and stuff...which I'll admit that obviously I'd love too, but it's not going to happen! We ate lunch across the street from USM and there was a picture of Brett hanging on the wall when he played for them and I showed it to Jackson. He was excited and said, "That's Brett Favre, but he's not white...he's green" - meaning his jersey...so then I explained as best as I could about college and pro football to a 4 year old! It was humorous for certain!
We had a blast...it was great to see an old friend and how much her family has grown and it was pretty cool for this crazed Packer fan to see the place where her favorite QB lives and hang out in his town for 24 hours! Maybe we can get things clicking on all cylinders before Sunday when we play our first regular season game against our rival, the Chicago Bears! No matter what...Go Pack Go! and certainly...Roll Tide Roll!!!
